COVID-19 Charts Updated Daily – My Selected Countries

Summary: Comprehensive COVID-19 charts on countries and territories worldwide, updated daily. This page shows charts for countries and territories selected by the user.

Preview(opens in a new tab)

You can select up to 20 countries (and territories) of your own choice. The countries selected will appear on the charts and will allow you to compare countries. Some of the charts show absolute numbers of cases or deaths while other charts show relative (per capita) numbers, usually per 100,000 population. The relative numbers of cases or deaths between countries reveal how badly the COVID-19 coronavirus has affected one country in comparison with other countries, in proportion to their populations.

The first time you access this page, click on the 3rd horizontal bar below labelled “Select countries (click to open/close the full list of countries)” to open the full list of 200+ countries, grouped by continent/region. Select two or more countries and click on the submit button. The page will be refreshed and the charts will appear.

Can’t see the forest for the trees? Click in the legend on a country to remove a country from the chart, one at a time, then click on countries in any order (best is from the bottom to the top) to let them appear on the chart again .
Draw a rectangle to select and zoom in on an area of the chart to see details.
Use the buttons in the upper left corner to zoom in/out, pan, reset the axes and download the chart.
Small numbers with decimals between 0 and 1 (e.g. 0.1) are used to make zeroes visible on a logarithmic scale.

The data line of each country shows the Cases Trajectory:

  • The horizontal axis shows the total number of COVID-19 cases. This number stays the same when there are no new cases and goes up (the line moves to the right) when new cases are reported. It will never go down.
  • The vertical axis shows the moving total of New COVID-19 cases in the past seven (7) days. This number and the line will go up when an increasing number of new cases were reported in the past 7 days and they will go down when the number of reported cases has decreased in the past 7 days. When no new cases have been reported in the past 7 days, this number (and the line) will go down to zero. As zero values cannot be shown on the logarithmic scale of the vertical axis, zero values are replaced with “0.1” or a lower value e.g. “0.09”. The lowest significant value above zero is “1”, which is a total of one new case in the past seven days.

A country that is successful in reducing the spread of the disease will have a low value on the vertical axis, and the data line will end near or at the bottom of the chart.

The Case Fatality Rate (CFR) is the total number of deaths as a percentage of the total number of confirmed cases. Also called Case Fatality Ratio as per WHO definition. Examples: seasonal influenza < 0.1%, SARS (2003) 9.6%-11%.

A relative high CFR, say above 10%, could be caused by undetected or unreported cases of COVID-19 due to lack of testing.

China’s COVID-19 CFR of around 5.42% (on 7 October 2020) could be considered as a benchmark against which other countries could be measured, Especially those countries that had sufficient resources and timely information to prepare themselves for the first and next waves of the pandemic.

Only countries with a population larger than 100,000 people and COVID-19 deaths are shown on this chart.
